Program Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (BA PoS) program of the Isabela State
University Cauayan City Campus is designed to provide students with the necessary
theoretical and methodological foundation for studying politics. It is intended for students to
gain proficiency in political science theory and practice, examine real-world problems critically,
find informed and innovative solutions to these problems, and become well-rounded
professionals in their chosen careers. It covers important areas of study including Philippine
Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory and Methodology,
Public Administration, Political Dynamics, Local and Global Governance, and Research in
Politics.
In line with the vision of the University to be towards development of a leading, vibrant
and comprehensive Research University locally and globally, the AB political Science
curriculum offers a complete, well-packaged and comprehensive subjects to clientele, which
not only allows them to generate knowledge and understanding of politics, governance and all
its facets, but likewise presents a wide vast of opportunity for learning and re-learning the
skills, competencies and necessary preparation to build characters of leadership,
responsiveness, critical thinking and accountability expected of them, among others. Likewise,
the curriculum provides a training ground for the development of the students’ readiness to
cope with the demands of the changing times brought about by technology, innovation and
globalization.
By equipping them with the necessary competencies, students can freely pursue
higher studies in political science, its various fields and allied disciplines such as Philippine
studies, international studies, international relations, and comparative politics.
Under the new curriculum, learners pursuing this program complete 130 units of study,
consisting of a 42-unit major courses and 88 units of course work inclusive Political Science
and other electives, general education (GE), Physical Education, and NSTP.
The program has been granted Level III Reaccredited Status by the Accrediting
Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP). It welcomes all
interested students from any senior high school track who pass the ISU College Admission
Test.
Program Objectives
- Possess exemplary leadership skills and characteristics of a good citizen worthy of
emulation which provides a distinct characteristic for a political science graduate who
can be globally competitive with others; - Compare, contrast and classify the major concepts and distinctiveness of the
discipline, its sub-fields, theories and methods. - Explain the nature and dynamics of the different political systems, institutions, and
processes in present day politics locally, nationally and globally; - Do comparative analyses and be able to conduct research inquiries using appropriate
quantitative and qualitative methods guided by theories or conceptual frameworks; - Think critically and analytically about political issues and challenges affecting the
global and international relations’ - Develop a predisposition towards ethical political involvement and practice on different
levels of engagement through research, seminars, trainings and extension and
production activities relevant to the program; - Display commendable values of nationalism and patriotism and gender and
development principles in multi-cultural settings; and - Critically respond to current issues and problems based on a substantive
understanding of the historical and contemporary developments in the national and
global contexts
