ISU Gym, September 13, 2023 – The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) at the esteemed institution, warmly embraced a new cohort of students entering the Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies (BAELS), Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (BAPOS), and Bachelor of Science in Legal Management (BSLM) programs during the SAS General Orientation held on September 13, 2023. With the theme “Tuloy-tuloy na Paglalakbay: Isang Maligayang Pagdating sa Paaralang Sining at Agham” (A Continuous Journey: A Warm Welcome to the School of Arts and Sciences), the event set the stage for an inspiring academic journey.

Dr. Paul Angelo A. Tamayo, the esteemed Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, opened the orientation with an inspirational message, instilling a sense of purpose and enthusiasm in the fresh faces of the incoming students. Dr. Tamayo emphasized the importance of nurturing intellectual curiosity, the pursuit of knowledge, and personal growth during their time in the SAS programs.

The orientation also provided a platform for the program chairs of BAELS, BAPOS, and BSLM to share the objectives and vision for their respective programs. Dr. Krisha Camille Angoluan, the program chair for BAELS, highlighted the significance of language in bridging cultural divides and encouraging effective communication. She also emphasized the diverse career opportunities that the BAELS program offers.

Ms. Shiela Antonette Bacud, program chair for BAPOS, spoke passionately about the role of political science in shaping societies and the impact of governance on our lives. She inspired students to explore the dynamic world of politics, advocating for change and progress through knowledge and civic engagement.

Ms. Joan Quilang, the program chair for BSLM, highlighted the importance of legal management in a world governed by laws and regulations. She encouraged students to develop strong analytical skills, ethical values, and an understanding of legal systems, preparing them for careers in law, governance, and more.

During the program, there was a moment of celebration and recognition as student awardees, including those on the Dean’s List and President’s List, were acknowledged for their outstanding academic achievements. These students demonstrated exceptional dedication and excellence in their studies, setting a high standard for their peers and embodying the spirit of academic excellence that the SAS upholds.

In addition to the faculty members of the School of Arts and Sciences, the orientation introduced the officers of the SAS SBO and the various student organizations that enrich the student experience. Lingua Franca, Ordo Justinianist, Artem Loqui Debate Society, and the Political Science Society were presented as avenues for students to engage in extracurricular activities, enhance their leadership skills, and build lasting friendships.

The SAS General Orientation served as a warm and promising beginning for the newest members of the School of Arts and Sciences, fostering a sense of belonging and aspiration as they embark on their educational journey. As the freshmen embark on their academic pursuits, they carry with them the words of Dr. Paul Angelo A. Tamayo, the guidance of their program chairs, the support of their fellow students, and the inspiration of their accomplished peers. This event marked the commencement of a fulfilling and enriching academic voyage that holds immense promise for these young scholars.
